Political Discrimination

Most business owners know that federal and state laws prohibit discrimination in the workplace for many reasons, including race, color, religion, gender (sex), national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, etc. These rules apply to businesses with 15 or more employees.

However, many people are surprised to learn that discrimination on the basis of "political affiliation or activity" is also against the law in Utah! Generally speaking, job applicants or employees cannot be treated in a negative manner becasue of their political activities outside the workplace. With the federal elections just around the corner, it is important to treat all of your employees fairly despite their political actions outside of the workplace.
