California Law Update
Beginning July 1st, 2024, California employers that have ten or more employees will be required to implement a Workplace Violence Protection Plan ("WVP Plan").
The WVP Plan must outline the company's procedure for reporting workplace violence, responding to workplace violence, correcting workplace violence hazards, and investigating incidents.
Employers must also begin conducting Workplace Trainings when the WVP Plan is implemented and every year thereafter. The trainings should explain the WVP Plan and encourage employees to participate in implementing the plan by identifying, evaluating, and correcting workplace violence hazards. Records of these trainings need to be kept for at least one year after each training is completed.
Lastly, employers must begin keeping a Violent Incident Log, with details of incidents being kept on file for a minimum of five years.
